Returning home from an exciting trip abroad is often going to be a bit of a downer. My personal way to combat this can broadly be split into three stages.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend 1 or 3, as they can border on the obsessive and they won’t suit everyone. To someone who over-analyses almost everything, like myself, I see no other reasonable course of action. It’s also a lot of fun.

1. Meticulously document everything that was measurably achieved on the trip onto a spreadsheet.
2. Write about the experiences in my own words, recalling and solidifying the good (and bad) memories.
3. Take some time to sit back and reflect on those experiences before trying to quantify them in various lists.
